Laser processing with an ultrashort pulse laser is perfect for the production of microstructured surfaces. By the focused material removal, USP laser structures are very precise without influencing the surrounding material. Microprocessing with laser processes have a great technical and economical potential. The range of applications are numerous: the fine machining can create microstructures, so-called functional surfaces, which have another wettability, other adhesion properties and which can cause effects of friction and wear minimisation. It is documented, that laser microstructuring can increase the lubrication up to 25% and thereby reduce the mechanical wear sigificantly. USP laser structuring literally sets new standarts for the functionalisation of surfaces and the structuring of micro components.
In addition to this functions, we use haptic attractive or optically effective structures (e.g. for light scattering) and structures with hydrodynamic characteristics. The use of ultrahshort pulsed lasers allows nearly meltless and burr-free edges in almost any material, so that re-editing is not required. Depending on the material and the requested quantity, the laser processing takes place directly on the component or replicative during the forming process, such as the injection moulding.
